The unique mountain world of Nockberge National Park and Biosphärenpark offers plenty of opportunities for active holiday days. With numerous beautiful hiking trails it is still difficult to choose and the choice is also enormous in terms of cycling routes. After a day of walking or cycling, it’s time for some relaxation. Take a dip in one of the mountain lakes or in your own swimming pool or visit the thermal baths.

Haus St Peter is the ideal place for a walking holiday. You will find hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails, of which about 800 km are also suitable for families with children. In the region you will find about 30 mountain huts, where you can take a well-deserved break while enjoying a delicious Alpine dish. Below are a few tips:

Go for one of the nock/art walking routes. These walks offer you a unique combination of walking pleasure and enjoying nature. Along the way you will be treated to the most beautiful views and learn more about the importance of the thermal springs in the region. Two of these routes are on the Kaiserburg (2055 m). Take the Kaiserburgbahn uphill and start these moderate hikes relaxed. At the top you can choose between the Feldpannalm-Runde, where you cover almost 8 km in just over 3 hours, ascending 616 meters and descending 615 meters, and the Wöllaner Nock – Alpinerunde, where you cover almost 9 km and 561 meters in almost 4 hours. rises and falls.
There are two popular long-distance hikes in the region around Bad Kleinkirchheim: the Alpe Adria Trail and the Nockberge Trail. Both run through the beautiful mountain world of the Kärntner Nockberge. If you want to discover Bad Kleinkirchheim on foot, the Entdeckungstour Bad Kleinkirchheim is highly recommended. This starts at the tourism office and takes you past, among others, the Thermal Römerbad, the golf course, the Speikskulptur and St. Oswald. It is a moderately difficult walk of about 23 km, during which you climb 900 meters in altitude in just under 8 hours. Along the way you will pass several mountain huts where you can enjoy local specialties.

During your summer holiday in Haus St Peter, a visit to the Nockberge National Park and Biosphärenpark should not be missed. This beautiful nature reserve is located in the south of Austria and is characterized by the rolling peaks of the Nockberge mountain range, green mountain meadows and clear lakes. The park has an area of over 184 km² and has a great diversity of plants and animals, some of which are very rare. The Nockberge were created about 60 million years ago and part of it was declared a national park on January 1, 1987. Since 2012, it has also been awarded the title of Biosphärenpark by UNESCO, which means that the ecosystems and genetic values are protected here.

Austria is known for its fantastic ski areas. Also in Carinthia! Bad Kleinkirchheim is around the corner and has 100KM of varied slopes. Snow is guaranteed because it snows more often on average, but also because all slopes can be covered with artificial snow. The ski bus stops a 10-minute walk from the house and in Bad Kleinkirchheim you can rent lockers for your ski equipment at the Intersport. So you don’t necessarily need your car.

Less known but super beautiful is the plateau of the Turracher Hohe. 40KM of slopes in a fairytale landscape. Very guaranteed snow due to the altitude and less than 30 minutes by car from our house. Also very special: the Gerlitzer. The Gerlitzen is a 1909 meter high mountain in Carinthia, Austria near the town of Treffen. The Gerlitzen is located in the southern part of the Nockberge and has a very beautiful view of the surrounding valleys and all the mountain peaks around it.
